Top 20 Creature Feature Films

I'm going to feature ten and then post trailers for the other half.  I really need to see how I can hide a huge list on this blog. So, I won't have to cut my lists down in this way. I really wanted to write for the other half, as well. Ah well. I'll figure it out. Enjoy!  Don't be shy to share your favorite creature feature films with me! Here they are, in no particular order:

1. The Host

One of the best creature films I've seen since Cloverfield. It wasn't just a balls out creature movie. It actually made you care about the characters and had a great plot to boot! The Host 2 was set to be released this Summer but I haven't heard or seen anything as of this date.

2. Aliens

My creature feature list would not be complete without one of my all-time favorite films. Aliens is classic and badass. To this day, I remember seeing this at the midnight premiere opening with my father when I was 7!

3. Cloverfield

Cloverfield was one of those highly anticipated movies. The marketing was fantastic! I remember catching the teaser when Transformers premiered. The teaser gave us nothing to go by. Just 11-11-08 and some found footage. It was like an invisible monster. What we did see was unexpected and fucking awesome. I'm glad JJ Abrams put a spin on creating the monster. Different than Godzilla but not like King Kong. This, was a new monster and it worked. Unfortunately, if you suffer from sea sickness and haven't seen this film, you probably don't want to watch it.

4. Tremors

I never thought Tremors would become the cult classic film that it is. It was a good movie, but I didn't think the audience would take to it. So far, it's spawned two sequels, one prequel and had a short-lived TV series. If you've never seen Tremors, I recommend it. Tremors has a diverse cast and it had a nice balance of humor and scares.

5. Arachnophobia
Luckily, for me, I was never afraid of spiders. If you are, then you probably were scared shitless throughout this whole film. No explanation is really needed but it fits into the "creature feature" category. They even made the movie funny so the audience wouldn't get too uncomfortable. Arachnophobia is deemed a "thrillomedy". See? It's...safe!

6. John Carpenter's The Thing

One of my favorite horror movies of all-time. To this day, I still give it props. It will always go down as a classic. John Carpenter remade it and just ran with it. The things he did. Oh, the things he did! Creature Feature at it's best. Just know, man is the warmest place to hide.

7. Attack The Block

Attack The Block was great from beginning to end. It was scary and fun all at the same time. Fantastic cast. Scary creatures. Question is, would you go to the same great lengths, these kids did, to save your block? I would.

8. Jaws

Just when you thought it was safe to go back into the water. Jaws preyed on all of our fears about the ocean. I'm still terrified yet fascinated with sharks. I know everything there is to know about sharks, thanks to this movie. It spawned three sequels but the first Jaws is the only relevant film.

9. The Mist

The Mist was always one of my favorite short stories from Stephen King's Skeleton Crew. I was skeptical about the movie, at first. So, it was a great surprise that I liked it. It even mindfucked me because they changed the ending and double punched me. Although the theme is what people will do under extraordinary circumstances, it's still a monster movie. And seeing the creatures on screen was a beautiful sight. Did I mention the star-studded cast? Oh wait, Stephen King adaptions always bring out the stars.

10. Lake Placid

Some of you may be shocked that this is on here. You know what? Lake Placid was a funtastic movie. It's always so underrated. Good humor and gore. Honestly, who doesn't love Bill Pullman, Oliver Platt and Bridget Fonda? I mean, really. As with a lot of creature movies, it spawned three made-for-TV sequels but the first is the best.

11. The Fly

12. Critters

13. Gremlins

14. The Birds

15. Pumpkinhead

16. Bad Taste

17. King Kong

18. Jeepers Creepers

19. Eight-Legged Freaks

20. From Dusk Till Dawn

Letting Go Is The Hard Part...

So, I've gotten the closure I needed. At least, I think I did. Dealing with a socially awkward person and getting any type of closure is a very hard thing. Trust me. He graciously gave me what I needed, I guess.

I've missed my friend for months. I had hurt for months. And I wasn't ready to let go because I had no closure. It all boils down that he wanted to cut ties, right now. In the back of my mind I feel like I did something wrong. Everyone is telling me I didn't but I obviously did if a so called friend actually needs to cut ties with me. I can't be that much of a distraction for one person. Anyway, it is what it is. At least, he doesn't hate me. I think that was the only good thing to come out of it. Besides the fact that when we see each other on the street or at friends events, we'll be civil and courteous to each other. Does that make him an ex-friend now? I don't know what to call us, at this point.

Will we ever be friends, again? I don' t know. In all honesty, I hope we do. We shared a lot together. But, I can't dwell on it and wait around for it. It's not my loss. I'm a damn good friend and I need to focus on the positive and keep my mind focused on the friends who actually want to be around me.

I sit here and can say that I can finally just let go and do my thing. The next time I see him, I'll just tip my head to him and walk on by.

There's more I can say but he really doesn't deserve any more of my time. I'll just end it, here.
